John Murdoch awakens in a hotel bathtub with no memory of his past and find himself accused of a series of brutal murders. As he flees from the police and a group of pale, mysterious beings known as "The Strangers," he discovers he possesses telekinetic powers. Murdoch soon realizes that his city is an artificial construct under the total control of these extraterrestrial beings, who manipulate the environment and human memories at will.
